THE NURSERY at Brookham School in Liphook was turned into a Winter Wonderland for the children to enjoy with lots of different textures and activities to help develop their sensory learning, literacy and numeracy.

Throughout Winter Wonderland Week the children made paper snowmen to strengthen their cutting skills, and painted and decorated snowmen with snowy puffy paint. They read lots of different books, fiction and non-fiction, to develop their literacy and a small ‘snowy world’ was created where they could re-enact what they had learnt in the books. They even had an ice cave with soft toys where they enjoyed roleplay activities and a cuddle with a toy penguin or seal. The children also used ICT to gain facts about cold icy environments and used paper penguins who had numbers on their tummies to help enhance their number learning.

The week finished with an opportunity to play in the snow, with the help of a snow machine, to give the children a visual experience of the cold stuff.

Toddlers from the community were also invited to visit and enjoy the Winter Wonderland as part of the school’s programme of fun, themed activities for two to three year olds.
