Please don’t stop the music: that’s the plea a legendary brass band has made to the people of Liss as they bid to find a new home in the village.
The Liss Band are a village institution given their history, community links and musical excellence.
But the group which celebrated 50 years of music making last year is now facing the unthinkable – relocating elsewhere amid a struggle to find a new home.
The band needs to find a new premises as their current base at St Paul’s United Reform Church on Hill Brow Road closed early this year. They’re still rehearsing at the premises but will have to move when the property is sold, with no timeline being given.
They need a place in Liss with suitable storage space where they can rehearse every Wednesday, like they’ve done every week for decades. But they’ve had no joy so far, and the metronome is ticking.

“We don’t know how long it might be before the church is sold – it might be weeks or months, or it might be a year,” said band member, Phil Carline.
“We need a place that can hold 30 players and we need some storage space for instruments, as well. It needs to be somewhere big enough for us to rehearse.
“We had our 50th anniversary last year and a lot was said about what it means to be part of the village and the Liss community.
“We’re just really looking for a bit of help to find a long-term home. We don’t want to leave the village but we’ve already been approached by venues outside the village but it would a shame for that to happen.”
