RAIL passengers heading from Petersfield and East Hampshire to London could face delays this weekend due to major engineering work at Waterloo station.

Improvement works elsewhere on the network around south west London and Woking will significantly reduce the number of trains running during the weekends of March 4 and 18.

Network Rail and South West Trains are advising passengers to check before you travel as many services will be affected while improvement work is carried out.

Network Rail’s £600,000 investment to replace key sections of track at Waterloo will be taking place over the aforementioned weekends.

It is part of the enormous £800 million Waterloo and South West Upgrade that rail bosses hope will boost capacity by 30 per cent and improve reliability on the railway in and out of Waterloo.

“This is the biggest investment in Waterloo for decades,” said a spokesman for Network Rail.

“It will potentially provide a bigger and better London Waterloo and 30 per cent more space for passengers during the morning and evenings.

“This also allows them to provide more space for longer distance passengers in the near future.”

The areas affected by engineering works will be London Waterloo, Clapham Junction, Wimbledon and Surbiton (Saturday only).
