THE GIANT Christmas Charity Market at Petersfield’s Festival Hall raised a record £3,487 for local charities.

Portsmouth Hospitals received £1,250 towards cancer research equipment. Other beneficiaries included The Rosemary Foundation (£397), the East Petersfield Community Group (£191), Petersfield Women’s Institute (£160), Petersfield Musical Festival (£155) and the Petersfield Open Air Pool (£150).

There were 80 stalls, a cafe and music from the Petersfield Ukulele Band.

Petersfield Tesco supplied raffle prizes. Tony Cook won a bottle of whisky, Mr Redstone a Christmas cake and Mrs Christmas a box of biscuits.

The market, and other ones put on throughout the year, are run by brothers Martin and Jeremy Holmes, with Portsmouth Hospitals the main beneficiary.

They ran them for 25 years for the Rocky Appeal, which was founded by Mick Lyons.
