A PRODUCTION of Handel’s Messiah ‘like no other’ is the promised post-Easter treat for a Petersfield audience.
Twelve professional singers sometimes sit with the audience or lean against pillars. They portray strangers seeking spiritual comfort in their struggle to understand the world.
They inspire each other to pick up the ragged ends of their faith, discover they are not isolated, and by the end of the performance they can face the future with hope.
There is no staging or special lighting, just the church as it stands.
As an audience member at a previous performance said: “That was the Messiah I have waited all my life to hear”, and Opera Now commented: “A powerful and affirming performance..…a delight. Bringing the singers out from behind their scores brought out the human character of this music.”
Tickets are on sale for the Merry Opera Company’s dramatisation at St Peter’s Church at 7.30pm on Saturday, April 14.
Tickets, unreserved, are £12 or £8 for under-18s. They are available online at: www.stpeterspetersfield.org.uk or from One Tree Books, in Lavant Street, Petersfield.
A Murder Mystery evening to raise funds for the church’s flower festival will be held at St Peter’s Hall on April 7, at 7.30pm.
