MILLAND gardeners know their onions.

The less than 250g onion class was described as “exceptional” by the judge during the Milland Gardening Club annual flower and produce show on Saturday.

The standard of entries was high despite several days of rain prior to the show.

Best in show went to Malcolm Hutchings for his spectacular gladioli.

Strong entries were seen in both the photography and cookery classes, with the Albert Hagan Memorial Trophy presented to Julie Hood for the best photographic exhibit, entitled A Seat in the Garden.

The Iris Stocker Memorial Trophy for most points in the cookery classes went to Jacquie Woodhams, and Les Lutman continued his winning ways by again taking home four trophies.

Milland Gardening Club welcomes new members and the next meeting, at Milland Village Hall, will be held on Wednesday, October 18.

David Standing, the head gardener at Gilbert White’s House, will talk about his work at the estate in Selborne at the October meeting.
