MILLAND has signed up to the Surrey Artists’ Open Studios in June for the first time.
Being on the border of three counties, the village has missed out when it comes to the county-wide trails of artists’ open houses and studios.
But a group of artists in Milland were keen to get involved somehow, and have been invited to join the Surrey event. So, on June 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18, from 11am to 5pm, art lovers will be able to visit five studios.
One is Milland Pottery, with ceramics by Angela Carter, who will be sharing the space with Robin Quinnell and her pet portraits and handmade cards of local landscapes.
Milland Farmhouse is where Su Jameson creates her ceramic sculptures. Also in the venue will be Melissa Hillman, a painter in oils of landscapes and interiors. The work of landscape photographer Gabriel Monks will be there too.
The colourful abstracts of Sue Hoar, and textiles made from upcycled materials by Kim Hoar, can be seen at the third studio.
And Audrey Campbell will be showing her range of paintings, drawings and sculpture in her studio shared with Russell Cobb, an award-winning illustrator.
Gail Clarke-Hall, who hand builds ceramic pots, and Hilary Charlesworth, a weaver, are in the final studio.
Trail maps will be available in The Milland Stores and The Rising Sun.
