THE CARS – and motorbikes – were definitely the stars in the bright Sunday sunshine in Petersfield town centre.

More than 100 vintage and classic vehicles, some dating as far back as the 1920s, lined up along Chapel Street and Lavant Street for the annual Post Summer Motor Show, which formed part of the popular Summer Festival event.

They sparkled in the Bank Holiday sunshine as the crowds admired the Austin, Morris, MG, Triumph, Hillman, Ford, Jaguar, Peugeot and many other makes and models on display.

After a special prizegiving ceremony had taken place, the vehicles taking part in the Post and Herald annual event, moved this year from its regular late May Bank Holiday slot, then left the town in a parade along the High Street late in the afternoon.

Post Series editor Graeme Moir said: “Sunday brought the perfect weather for our annual car show.

“The hot and sunny weather certainly drew the crowds out to Petersfield and the vehicles on display shined brightly and proudly.

“Motoring enthusiasts always enjoy looking at the vehicles which attend our motor show and those who bring their cars and motorbikes to the town also enjoy taking part in the event every year.

“It’s fantastic that this event also continues to be a part of the popular series of festivals which take place in the town centre during the year – both our show and the festivals keep on going from strength to strength.”

Four awards were up for grabs to those people displaying their vehicles at the motor show. Best Entry prize winner at the event went to Tony Nappin for his 1962 Renault Floride ‘S’.

The Best Presented Vehicle winner was Mr N?Partridge for his 1960 MGA A.

Best Motorcycle at the show prize went to Mike and Connie Baker for their 1962 Triumph Thunderbird.

A?special award was also handed out to the entrant who had raised the most sponsorship money for the event. This prize went to Roger Cope, who raised £125 and had his 1978 MG?BGT on display as well.

Proceeds raised by the motor show will be split between two good causes – The Rosemary Foundation and The Petersfield Museum.

A?total of almost £750 has been raised so far.
