PLANS for a coffee and hot food kiosk on Petersfield station look set to be agreed, says the man behind the proposal.
Anthony Higgins currently has little coffee cart on the station, from which he offers barista coffee to early morning commuters and rail travellers on the northbound London platform.
He said: “The electric cable has been run across to the platform, and new plans for the kiosk are with Network Rail.
“I have been talking to Network Rail for 18 months and hopefully these plans will be agreed in 28 days and if so the kiosk should be built and open by the end of March.”
Mr Higgins, who also has a coffee stall in Fleet Street, plans to sell hot food like bacon rolls and granola pots, among other eatables, as well as coffee and newspapers.
Once the kiosk is up and running, he then hopes to open a café on the southbound Portsmouth platform in the station’s former sorting office.
The sorting office is being used as tourist information centre on behalf of East Hampshire Community Rail Partnership.
But it is hoped that a cafe could also be included in the building, which opens onto the station forecourt.
Plans for a cash point at the station were also submitted on January 10 to East Hampshire District Council and planners, are due to make a decision on the proposal in the near future.
It is proposed that the cash point is built into the wall of the right hand building of the station behind the bus stop.
The plan can be viewed on South Downs National Park Authority planning website, reference SDNP/17/00125/ADV.
