A SUSPECTED drug-driver was not to blame for a fatal accident on the A3 between Petersfield and Clanfield that claimed the life of a 22-year-old woman from Waterlooville.

Police have confirmed that no further action will be taken against Christopher Bedder in relation to the late-night accident on September 15 in which Laura Westbrook died.

Miss Westbrook, who was returning home from her evening shift at Whitman’s Laboratory in Petersfield, died of serious injuries after her white Vauxhall Corsa overturned near the Butser Cutting.

Reports at the time suggested vehicle was involved in an incident with a black Ford Focus, driven by Mr Bedder, but there was no evidence to suggest the two vehicles collided.

Mr Bedder was bailed until December 15 after being arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drugs, being in possession of a Class B drug, and causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.

The 27-year-old of Grafton Street, Portsmouth, is due appear to before city magistrates on December 29 in relation to the first two counts, but the latter was dropped as police found no evidence to suggest that a second car played any role in the fatal accident.
