THE PETERSFIELD Society ‘Spruce it Up’ campaign to make the town a more attractive place in an effort to encourage shoppers and visitors back after lockdown is gathering momentum.
The thrust of it is to encourage shop owners to clean up the outside of their shops, maybe add a lick of new paint, get their windows cleaned perhaps, and weed and sweep the pavement outside it.
Each week, businesses who join the campaign aimed at making the town more inviting for those using it, will get their photo in the Post.
This week is the turn of PetaPrint printers next to the Folly Wine Bar on College Street.
Campaign spokesman Andrew Hicks of the Petersfield Society said: “When volunteers from the Petersfield Society approach shop owners and ask them to ‘Spruce Up Your Shop Front’ the response is sometimes a little guarded.
“We understand that owners and staff are under a lot of pressure at the moment, however it can just take 10 minutes to make some improvements, as this experience shows.
“We emailed Colin Smith at PetaPrint ordering 40 copies of our standard ‘spruce up’ letter to shops, suggesting they might also themselves like to read it. An email came back within a few minutes saying that the copies were ready for collection.
“And when we got to PetaPrint they were washing their hands having just swept and cleaned their weedy shop front which now looked perfect.
“It just shows what can be done, small individual actions can add-up to big improvements.
“Our campaign aims to help Petersfield be more inviting by encouraging – and celebrating – businesses who are making their premises look their best.”
