Anyone who would like to nominate a candidate for the annual award needs to do so in writing by next Wednesday (February 15).
Liss Parish Council is then meeting on Monday, February 20.
Liss Parish Council chairman Keith Budden said:?“The award is open to anyone living in Liss, working in Liss or involved with a community group in Liss.
“The only rule is that people can’t nominate themselves, but they are more than welcome to be put forward for a nomination.
“They just need one nomination to be put forward.”
Once the nominations are in, councillors will then decide on a winner.
Councillors have had to revise their system since, on one occasion, they picked their winner but then he didn’t want to accept the award.
Cllr Budden said: “We always contact the winner first to check, and we did have one gentleman who declined it as they wanted to stay under the radar.
“Generally people take the award though.”
The 2017 Liss Villager of the Year will be presented with the trophy, which they can keep for the year, at Liss Parish Council’s annual parish meeting on Wednesday, March 15.
This award is made in recognition of an individual’s contribution to the community of Liss of an extended or an important voluntary nature. This may be service to a single organisation, or to several groups.
Nominations need to be sent in writing to Liss Parish Council clerk Dick Bowery, and they can be e-mailed to [email protected] or posted to The Council Room, Liss Village Hall, Hill Brow Road, Liss, Hampshire, GU33 7LA.
