THE NOSTALGIA feature of July 25 about Ben Coles’ project to restore a steam road locomotive from Petersfield caught the attention of Bill Gosney, who is a local historian and a trustee of the town’s museum.

He has been in touch with Ben and, with the help of Kevin Lockyer, was able to fill him in on quite a few details about Amey’s Brewery, where the locomotive was first put to work, but they would still like to know more, including about other aspects of the brewery.

Although the museum has thousands of pictures in its archives, this steam-powered lorry is one of the few linked to Amey’s, which is surprising, as the brewery thrived for 80 years. If any Post readers can help with photos or information, do get in touch.
