THE REMEMBRANCE Day commemorations of 25 years ago were marked by at least 2,000 people who gathered in Petersfield’s Square for the annual service before moving to the war memorial in High Street.

Described in the Petersfield Post of November 17, 1993, as one of the best attended ceremonies ever, the service was led by chaplain to the town’s Royal British Legion branch, the Rev Christopher Lowson.

Town Mayor Teresa Jamieson led the wreath-laying at the war memorial where members of Churcher’s College Combined Cadet Force assisted with members of the town’s Air Cadets.

A total of 14 wreaths were laid by representatives of organisations in the traditional event.
