THIS bustling scene of Petersfield Market in The Square brings back many happy memories for Post reader Miriam Ellis.
Mrs Ellis, who is known as ‘Mim’, kept the picture, which was published in the Post in 2001, because it reminds her of the days she and her sister spent with their grandparents, Jim and Edith Daughtrey, who lived in Swan Cottage, Swan Street, Petersfield, next to the Cottage Hospital.
With his horse and car, Mr Daughtrey was well known in the district as a collector of scrap metal and other unwanted bits and pieces from householders.
Mim also recalls playing croquet on the lawn of the old vicarage next to her grandparents’ house, with the daughters of the vicar, Mr Hadfield.
