THE ANNUAL Pumpkin Patch children’s fun days will this year feature a vintage fair as well as all the usual attractions.
The week-long event is put on by Sophie and Pete Davey on their farm field east of Rogate on the A272, where they have grown pumpkins for the past ten years.
Now in its fifth year, the event provides pumpkin fun for all the family, with youngsters able to pick their own fruit and carve them into Hallowe’en lanterns.
And visitors of all ages are encouraged to enter into the spirit of the event, and dress up in Hallowe’en costume – there will be prizes each day for the best costumes.
Sophie said: “It will be even more magical and mystical for all the little munchkins visiting this year.
“We have kept our passion for outdoors and creativity in the forefront of the planning for this years Pumkin Patch.
“And building the event from scratch each year allows us to add new fresh ideas while keeping our passion of the outdoors.
“Everyone will be able to pick their own pumpkin, and there will be an array of different colours and sizes.
“There will also be a vintage fair, barrel rides and hands-on crafts, so there will be something for all the family.
“And to add spook and sparkle to your faces, we’ve professional face painters, and there’s a corn maze to test your sense of direction, barrel train to take a ride in, and of course, pumpkins of all sizes and varieties to pick.
“And visitors will also be able to enjoy delicious street food being served while watching some wonderful street entertainment.
”It was after ten years of pumpkin farming, combined with a love of the winter squash, that made us decide to grow the patch.
“With children of our own we know just how good it feels to spend time together outdoors carving out traditions.”
The patch is grown in June, and the pumpkins are snipped from their stalks in September.
They are then coloured up in the Autumn sun ready for harvest in October.
And this year, visitors to the patch will receive a free entry to their inaugural Fireworks Party which is being held on Friday, November 1.
This year’s Pumpkin Patch is open from Friday, October 25, to Thursday, October 31.
