A HEART-felt message from the mothers of poorly baby Marlowe Parker has thanked the people of Petersfield for their “overwhelming” support.
Claire (29) and Ally Parker (24) of Highfield Road now have the specialised buggy that their one-year-daughter needs, after an appeal for help with funds in the Post. She has been out in it several times and loves it.
They collected in £1,700 from events at Petersfield Social Club, which made £500, and at The Square Brewery in Petersfield Square, which raised £200.
The buggy fitted with a ventilator cost £1,200, so £500 can now be sent to the paediatric intensive care unit at Southampton Hospital.
“This is for all the amazing work they did for Marlowe to keep her alive,” said Claire.
Marlowe was born with a cardiac condition and Down’s Syndrome, and her lungs were destroyed by a bout of the flu. She needs round-the-clock care, and Claire and Ally take it in turns to be with her at the hospital, the other looking after Marlowe’s twin Henley at their Highfield Road home.
“The support we have received from the local community is overwhelming and heart-warming,” added Claire. “I can’t wait to bring her home and meet all the people who have supported her through this time in her life.
“Petersfield will always be her home and it’s beautiful to know she’s not only accepted with open arms, but loved by many.”
It was hoped Marlowe would be home for Christmas, a year after she was admitted to hospital, but the house now needs an extension built for a live-in care, so the family will celebrate together, it is hoped, at the Naomi House charity.
The baby is currently in intensive care after a chest infection but is recovering well and will soon be transferred to QA at Portsmouth, which is nearer for the couple.
