TWO WOMEN were freed from their vehicles by firefighters on Tuesday following a head-on collision between Petersfield and South Harting.

Fire crews from the Petersfield and Horndean stations were called to the B2146 after a Toyota and Hyundai came into collision at Hurst around 4pm.

The respective drivers – described by a spokesperson as a young woman and an older lady – were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital after suffering various injuries.

They remained conscious and were taking throughout the rescue operation, with firefighters having to cut off both roofs to reach them.

The road was blocked in both directions for around 90 minutes following the accident, which is being investigated by Sussex Police.
