ATTEMPTS are being made to track down a mystery knitter who has made a blanket for homeless people.

Members of the St Laurence Catholic Church’s parish knitting circle are hoping readers of the Post might be able to help track down the unknown knitter.

The “beautiful” blanket is made up of coloured squares, and arrived in February at St Laurence Parish Hall, next to the church in Station Road, Petersfield.

And the mystery knitter has still not been identified.

Knitter Ludmilla Boswell, who attends St Agnes Church in Liss, part of the St Laurence Parish, said: “We would really like to thank whoever knitted this beautiful blanket for us. It has been admired by so many.

“It will be going to the homeless in Portsmouth with our knitted blankets.’’

At a handover in the church, the blankets were given to a representative from the homeless day centre in Kingston Road, Portsmouth.

Mrs Boswell added: “Mother Teresa once said, ‘Don’t look just far away to help the poor; open your eyes and you may find them on your doorstep.’

“When I read about Portsmouth being gripped by homelessness, I decided we should send the blankets there from now on instead of to London.’’

The knitting for the homeless group is held from 2pm to 4pm on alternate Wednesdays at St Laurence’s Hall.

It is open to all levels of knitters, including novices, with needles and wool provided to knit squares which are then made into blankets.

Anyone who may know the mystery knitter is asked to contact parish administrator Carol Warren on 01730 262290.
