ORGANISERS of Petersfield's centuries-old Taro fair have urged the community to get behind this year's event.

They are keen to link up with residents, businesses, charities and event organisers to give the traditional fair – which has its origins in the Middle Ages – a boost.

After last year's fair on the Heath, Bernice Walls, of JWS Pleasure Fairs, which has been bringing the Taro to the town for generations, admitted that it was a struggle financially to keep it going.

But she hopes with input from the community it will become the much-anticipated and thriving occasion it was in its heyday when it was the town's 'jewel in the crown.'
