A PETERSFIELD man received an honour on behalf of his wife, whose organs helped save at least two lives after she died last year.

Last December Lynda Hill of Borough Grove tragically died in hospital , and her family agreed her organs should be donated to help save others. Husband James Hill said: “Her organs helped save two people who had been waiting for transplants for two and three years.

”So something worthwhile came out of the tragedy.”

James, his and Lynda’s daughter Shelley Clarke, and other family members, collected the Order of St John medal and certificate.

It was presented at a private ceremony in Winchester by senior St John’s representatives led by Surgeon Rear Admiral Lionel Jarvis, CBE.

James said: “It was very moving, the surgeon talked to every family and listened to their story. We were honoured to be there.”

The charity has now launched an appeal for more people to consider donating their organs.

NHS Blood and Transplant director Sally Johnson said: “Families take great comfort knowing their loved one went onto save and improve the lives of desperately ill people. This award is a chance for us to recognise their bravery and generosity.”
