SEARING heat and hard terrain made this year’s Trailwalker event one of the toughest for veteran Ian Crawford of Petersfield.
The 73-year-old joined around 2,000 endurance walkers who trekked 100km non-stop across the South Downs on the annual fundraiser for Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
This was the 18th Trailwalker for Ian, who, with his Take it Easy team-mates have a record number of starts and finishes.
He has raised more than £25,000 over the years, and he really earned the sponsorship he gathered in this time round. “It was tortuous with unbearable heat in open country,” he said. He hit the finish line 35 minutes under the 30-hour target.
