THE?FIRST?aquathlon held at Petersfield?Open Air Swimming Pool at the weekend was a great success, say organisers.

Around 60 adults and children donned their swimwear for the event on Sunday which combined swimming and running in a series of races.

The overall winner in the adult classes was Jessica Chen who completed her 400m pool swim and 5km run around the town in an impressive 25.51 minutes.

There were members of the Petersfield Triathlon Club taking part, including Joshua Lahiri, who came first for the men, Ben Willis who came second, and Jessica Lee, second among the women competitors.

Children showed their enthusiasm and stamina in their three races.

In TriStars 1 (9-10 years), youngsters completed a 150m swim and 1km run, with Dylan Allanson and Florence Ingram the winners. Lucy Sampson and Samuel Wren won the TriStars 2 challenge (11-12 years) of a 200m swim and 2km run; and Liam Dunne and Isabel Roberts were the fastest boy and girl in the TriStars 3 race for 13 to 14 year olds.

“It was a really successful, very well organised event which everyone enjoyed,” said pool manager Deborah Mitchell.

She thanked the organising team of Liz Pillans, Kim King and Kate Gardener, and the Cook shop in Petersfield for cakes.

Competitors were a mix of pool season ticket holders, regular swimmers, members of Petersfield Triathlon Club and people who had come from much further afield to take part.
