CAMPAIGNERS against Donald Trump are to hang big protest banners over the A3 at Petersfield on the day of his inauguration as American president.
The anti-Trump activists are joining the national ‘Bridges Not Walls’ campaign by hanging four banners from the Bell Hill bridge on Friday, January 20, at 11am.
The campaign’s message is one of “hope, defiance and solidarity” in the face of what they see as division and prejudice brought about by Trump’s election victory.
Banners are set to be unfurled from bridges all over the country.
One of those taking part in Petersfield is Anna Hocking, of Steep who hopes around 20 or 30 people will gather at the bridge.
She said: “We wanted to do something because so many of us felt really shocked at the result, and we also felt impotent. We don’t want this kind of post truth politics.
“Trump is divisive and untruthful. It’s about channelling the feelings of the community of good will, truthfulness and justice. All the good feelings rather than his very negative approach.”
The banners say ‘Bridges Not Walls’ as well as ‘Fairness and Justice’ and ‘Solidarity Trumps’.
