PETERSFIELD Round Table members will be taking part in the national organisations 90th anniversary celebrations in Winchester.
The Round Table movement was founded in 1906; around Winchester, including Petersfield, was the first region to have closely linked groups, and is still known as Area 1.
Petersfield Round Table chairman Chris Morgan said: “Petersfield was formed in 1951, and the national 90th birthday celebration will be in Winchester as it is Area 1, and also because of the big Round Table in the city’s Great Hall.”
Speaker for the evening is Dave Henson MBE – one of the stars of Team GB’s Paralympic record medal-winning side in Rio last year.
The former Royal Engineer, who claimed a bronze medal at the games, is taking time out from his training preparations for the 2017 World Para Athletic Games to appear at the showpiece event in Winchester’s Great Hall on Saturday, March 11.
Round Table is a fundraising organisation for men aged 18 to 41, that also puts on events in the community -- and it has a “hugely enjoyable” social side, says Chris.
He said: “We organise the firework display on Bell Hill, and the Petersfield Ups and Downs charity cycle event and other fundraisers, and all the proceeds go to local charities, or people who need help.
“But away from the fundraising and the fun things such as taking Santa on a tour of Petersfield, we have a very good social calendar, we meet fortnightly and try do things we haven’t done before; in April we are walking the Spey Way in Scotland, which includes quite a few whiskey distilleries.”
