A CHARITY which hires wheelchairs and mobility scooters to Petersfield shoppers and town visitors says it desperately needs volunteers.
Petersfield Shopmobility now has to close on Mondays because there aren’t enough volunteers to help man the shop in the central car park.
Charity secretary Alan Rushton said: “Most of our volunteers are elderly, and a few have had medical issues.
“So at the moment there is about 17 volunteers we can call on, but only nine or 10 can help regularly, and we really need about 30 volunteers to offer a full time service.
“Financially we are stable, but we need more volunteers to keep going.”
The wheelchairs and mobility scooters are less than two years old, and are regularly maintained, and insured, and can be hired for a few hours, days or weeks, depending on what they are needed for.
Mr Rushton added: “They aren’t just there for shopping, or even just to use in Petersfield. People with a broken leg for example, can hire them until they can walk again. Or they can be taken on holiday if they are needed.”
