THE LAUNCH of a survey of Petersfield’s trees is set to take place next week.
The 2016-17 Petersfield i-Tree Eco Survey report will be unveiled during an event presented by Dr Pippa Greenwood, a plant pathologist, gardening expert, author and radio and television personality.
She is also the honorary president of the annual Petersfield in Bloom competition.
The new publication called ‘Petersfield’s Trees – their importance and value’, includes and considers the results of the i-Tree survey of Petersfield’s trees which was carried out by community volunteers from The Petersfield Society last summer.
The report and the work to compile it was carried out working alongside and in harmony with Petersfield Town Council, East Hampshire District Council and the South Downs National Park Authority.
The report develops an understanding of the town’s trees so the community can develop plans for the enhancement of Petersfield’s natural environment to the benefit of all citizens.
The launch of the survey publication will take place at 6pm on Monday, October 30, at One Tree Books in Lavant Street.
Dr Greenwood will be joined by Callum King, head boy at The Petersfield School, and society trustee Andy Moffat, project manager and principal author of the report.
It is a public event and all are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be provided.
The i-Tree survey was one of the first of its kind in the country to be carried out for a market town.
It may now be used as an example other towns and villages across the national park to copy to survey the condition of the trees in their communities.
Conserving the natural environment is one of The Petersfield Society’s aims.
