A BUGLE cry for brass instruments has sounded out from a Petersfield trumpeter.
Life-long trumpet player Steve Sargent is appealing for unwanted instruments to give to disadvantaged children in Africa.
He is making the collection on behalf of the ‘Brass for Africa’ charity, which supports vulnerable youngsters in orphanages in Uganda and Liberia.
The ethos behind the campaign is that the opportunity to learn and play music has a profound and empowering effect, particularly on disadvantaged children including orphans, ex-street kids and refugees.
It runs nine brass bands and other musical and social projects in Africa. It also provides brass instrument teacher training for older musicians.
Said Steve: “It occured to me that lots of families here have unused brass instruments in their lofts and cupboards after their children stopped music lessons. Probably these will never be played again, and many people would like them to be used in a way that will transform young lives.”
Call Steve on 07707 993200 or e-mail [email protected]. He is happy to collect any donations.
