PETERSFIELD Twinning Association marked the anniversary of the German reunification with a dinner.

Petersfield is twinned with Barentin in France and Warendorf in Germany, and the themed dinner celebrated October 3, 1990, the day East and West Germany were reunited to become Federal Germany after 45 years of division.

And in honour the day, the menu for the meal held in the United Reform Church hall in College Street included German dishes such as pumpernickel, sauerkraut, and Obatzda, a Bavarian cheese speciality, followed by Apfelstrudel mit Schlagsahne

A twinning association spokesman said: “Before the meal, a quiz was held on the subject of Warendorf, and after the meal, the participants sang some spirited German folk songs, accompanied by David Groves on the piano.”

Next summer is the tenth anniversary of the Petersfield and Warendorf twinning, and celebrations are being planned. For information about the association email Bob Duffy at [email protected]
