The Waiting is over in an East Hampshire town as a superstore has fully reopened following a stunning makeover.

“We can’t wait to show you around” were the words of a supermarket manager this morning as Waitrose Petersfield was relaunched following a multimillion-pound revamp.

Complimentary ‘Waitrose Petersfield’ tote bags were handed out to the first customers as the store was fully reopened following an 11-week transformation.

The relaunch coincided with the store’s 33rd anniversary as the Rams Walk retailer opened in 1993.

The revamp is part of a multi-year £1billion investment plan across the firm with bosses hopeful the changes will deliver an “even better experience for customers”.

The improvements include upgraded service counters, a new dry-aged beef cabinet and a dedicated John Lewis Click and Collect desk for faster collections and returns.

New refrigeration units have been installed to improve energy efficiency while electronic shelf labels are also new additions, freeing up time for store staff to prioritise on customer service.

Local customers are able to pick up John Lewis, Waitrose Entertaining and Waitrose Cellar orders in store and order home delivery from the shop using UberEats.

“We would like to say a big thank you to our community for their patient and support during the refurbishment, as well as to our incredible Partners who worked so hard behind the scenes,” said branch manager, Tom Sheffield, who leads a team of 175 Partners at the shop.

He added: “This transformation is all about making sure our customers have the very best shop, products and service.

“We can’t wait to show you around and hear what you think.”

Early customers were also given a free welcome drink and limited edition chocolate bar, with customers being told to expect ‘sampling stations’ and tastings of Waitrose products over the weekend.
