THE PETERSFIELD woman heading the public side of the prestigious Farnborough air show is urging volunteers to come forward to help at next year’s event.

A 50-strong Farnborough Flyers volunteer team flew into action for the first time at the public weekend of the 2016 show.

And its success has seen organisers bid to double its size to 100 for the 2018 weekend, starting July 21.

Sarah Gladstone from Petersfield heads the public airshow team, and is encouraging potential volunteers from the town and East Hampshire to apply to join the Flyers.

She said: “Whether you are an aviation enthusiast, or just looking to get a behind the scenes glimpse of one of the world’s most prestigious events, we are sure you’ll enjoy volunteering with us.”

Anyone over 17-years-old is invited to apply, and Sarah said applications from college students, youth groups and pensioners would be welcome.

With ambitions to double the number of volunteers next summer, the recruitment drive has now begun in earnest, she added.

Former Farnborough Flyer Chantelle Lawes, aged 19, is hoping to return to the show next year as a Flyer.

She said: “Volunteering as part of the team offered an insight into what it takes to deliver an event on the scale of Farnborough, to be able to add this my CV will impress any future employer I hope.”

Tony Myers (67) added.” It was great to be part of the Flyers team and help with visitor management.

“It was hard work, but what a great opportunity to see all the aircraft and watch the flying display.”

People interested in becoming a Farnborough Flyer can apply by visiting www.farnboroughairshow.com/public.

Successful candidates will be invited for an interview at the show offices in Farnborough. Full training and uniforms will be provided.
