A PETERSFIELD pupil has been shortlisted as a finalist in the popular Wicked Young Writers Awards 2017.

Chloe Thompson (10), who goes to Herne Junior School, has been selected as a finalist in the eight to ten-year-old category in the awards.

Her story, The Jooboos, was one of 150 shortlisted out of thousands of entries across all age groups.

The young gymnast will learn at a special awards ceremony if the judges, who include former Labour MP Ed Balls, have chosen her story as a winner.

The winners in each category will get £50 book tokens, and those 14 and under will receive £100-worth of books for their school library.

The awards ceremony on June 23, is at London’s Apollo Theatre, home of the long running, award-winning musical Wicked.

The musical created and sponsors the awards in association with the National Literary Trust.

Now in its seventh year, the Wicked awards are open to young people aged from five to 25.

They are aimed at encouraging youngsters to use writing to express themselves, and to help develop literacy and writing talent. For more about the awards visit: www.wickedthemusical.co. uk/education
