LISS Parish Council has strongly objected to a controversial planning application at an historic site in the village.
South Oak Developments has put in a planning application for two semi-detached two bedroom cottages and one detached three bedroom house at Saddlers, Farnham Road.
The application is also seeking alterations to the existing site access from Church Street and improvements to the existing junction of Church Street and Farnham Road, as well as provision of open and covered car parking and cycle stores, including new covered car parking and a cycle store for Saddlers.
The application has been listed as being in Farnham Road, but it affects Church Street. An application for four houses, a single garage, garden room outbuilding and car port at the site in 2014 was refused. Another application for three detached two-storey houses at the site in 2015 was also refused.
Liss Parish Council chairman Keith Budden said: “We’ve put in a strong objection as the site is in the West Liss Conservation area and these properties won’t enhance the area.
“This application is mainly affecting Church Street and the proposed entrance isn’t going to work.
“We also don’t want the proposed increased signage, as it is not in keeping with the character of the area.
“In my opinion multiple properties at the site will not work.
“Church Street is very narrow and when St Peter’s Church is busy for funerals and Sunday services traffic parks on Farnham Road. Two or three houses would make the problem worse.”
