East Hampshire residents have been urged to comment on controversial plans to pump “recycled” water into a new reservoir near Rowlands Castle.

Southern Water proposals to pump treated water into the Havant Thicket Reservoir have been handed to the Planning Inspectorate.

The plans involve pumping “highly-treated recycled” water from a treatment works near Southampton via a cross-county pipeline to supplement and stabilise supplies.

Opponents say the technology involved has yet to be tested in the UK while the MPs for East Hampshire, Havant and Waterlooville all have concerns about the project.

The proposals are in the pre-examination phase with Southern Water seeking a Development Consent Order.
