ARTIST Hilary MacDonald painted this picture of her mother dying of coronavirus in Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford.

She allowed the Petersfield Post to use it in the hope it will encourage people to take the lockdown seriousely and stay at home unless exercising, or collecting food or medicines, and when out to follow social distancing guidelines strictly.

Hilary said: "The painting is of my elderly mother, nearly 90 and with a chronic heart disease, struggling to take her last breath.

"I was with her at the end and it was one of the most painful things I have ever had to do.

"Watching and listening to her fluid filled lungs gasping for air and seeing the panic in her eyes.

"If this painting helps anyone in these strange times, my mum would be very pleased, so I hope it might so some good."
