GOOD causes across East Hampshire and beyond benefited from the Giant Easter Market held at the Festival Hall in Petersfield on Easter Saturday.

Overall the sum raised was £2,500, with organisers hailing the annual event a big success.

From the fundraising total, £805 went to the Portsmouth Hospitals Rocky Appeal.

The appeal funds state-of-the-art digital keyhole operating theatres at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, the fourth of which is a futuristic Robotic theatre costing £2.4m.

Among the other charities boosted by the event are: Petersfield Musical Festival (£130), The Rosemary Foundation (£207), Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital (£196), the Cat and Rabbit Rescue Centre at Sidlesham (£122), and Broadway Park residents’ association (£85).

Other charities delighted by the amounts they raised were Petersfield Open Air Swimming Pool (£238), East Petersfield Community Group (£220) and Help Palestine Community Group (£220).

Co-organiser Jeremy Holmes, who runs the market with his brother Martin and other family and friends, said those involved in the event had had to work harder to bring in extra income.

He added: “We were fortunate to have more stalls and some generous donations ahead of the market.

“The cafe boosted our funds by a good amount and the raffle takings were among the best we’ve ever had.” The next market in aid of the Rocky Appeal will be the Christmas market in Petersfield on December 3.
