POLICE were called to an accident on Friday involving a police car at a notorious accident black spot in Petersfield.

In a statement police said: “We were called out at 2.20pm on Friday (January 28) following reports of a three-vehicle collision on Durford Road in Petersfield.

“A white Seat, a blue Ford and a police vehicle were involved in a collision.

“Three people suffered minor injuries as a result and were treated by paramedics.

“No arrests have been made.”

The accident is thought to have happened at, or very close to, the Durford Road crossroads, the scene of many previous accidents, and a car crash fatality on July 23, 2020.

Residents and local councillors have been campaigning for years to have the junction, and roads leading to it, made safer.

But the roads authority, Hampshire County Council, refuses to make any meaningful safety improvements such as a mini roundabout, or traffic lights.

This is despite having a substantial pot of developer contributions earmarked for road improvements at the junction and roads around it.
