HOUSE of Lords Liberal Democrat Chief Whip Lord Stoneham gave an insight into the Brexit negotiations to party members during a talk at St Laurence’s Church Hall in Petersfield.

Petersfield Liberal Democrat spokesman David Podger said: “The hall was packed, and he gave a Westminster view on the Brexit negotiations, and also answers to audience questions, and outlined how the House of Lords would play an important part in scrutinising any new legislation on our future relationship with Europe and, if necessary, ask the House of Commons to think again if measures coming before the Lords conflicted with national interests and Britain’s place in the world.

“He also emphasised that Brexit shouldn’t overshadow discussion of other pressing issues such as Britain’s low productivity and skills gap, health service funding, housing and social care.”
