PLANS to re-open a Post Office in Petersfield are in the pipe line.

The Post Office in Durford Road’s Londis shop closed in 2008, but after a national streamlining of the postal service, it is hoped it will be viable to re-open it.

A Post Office spokesman said: “It would be a new-style Post Office local service where services would be provided alongside the shop till.

“Our new-style local branches are more cost-effective for us and an operator and are designed to handle automated products and services, so that customers can be served quickly and efficiently and transactions processed more quickly.

“Also, a fully trained staff member can also operate a Post Office till and shop till when it’s quiet, helping reduce staff costs. Tills can be separately staffed at busier times. The owner of the Londis shop has expressed an interest in re-opening an in-store Post Office, but we have not yet received an actual application.”
