A PACKED St Peter’s Church in Petersfield hosted a prestigious study day paying a poignant tribute to Steep poet Edward Thomas.
Around 170 people attended the annual national event, held in the town during the anniversary year of Thomas’s untimely death in the First World War, and enjoyed lectures and readings by experts, actors and writers.
The official opening of The Edward Thomas Study Centre at Petersfield Museum followed. This holds an important collection of 1,800 books by and about Thomas, collected by the late Tim Wilton-Sheer and donated by his widow Hilary.
Vice-chairman of The Edward Thomas Fellowship Jeremy Mitchell said:?“It was a truly wonderful and moving day enjoyed by all.”
People had been introduced to Petersfield and the work of Thomas.
