WARM clothing, footwear, tents and sleeping bags for refugees facing winter in camps in northern France, have almost filled a container at Reeves Storage, in Petersfield. Donated by Post readers and residents in and around Petersfield, the plan is to deliver the items at the start of the new ear. The collection was the idea of Petersfield Mayor Lesley?Farrow (pictured left), and the town council’s senior groundsman Doug Budd (centre) has collected the items from the Festival Hall and the Petersfield Post’s office in High Street. Donations can still be made at both. Council office manager Steve Field (right) and staff at the Post will be taking them to the camps where hundreds of refugees are living in tents with basic facilities. Cllr Farrow said: “People have been so generous, it’s amazing.” Cash donations are now needed to help cover the costs of the trip, which is likely to be around £300.
