A LIFE-SIZED Advent calendar has popped up in Petersfield in a bid to raise money for a Scout hut.
The project was the brainchild of Caroline Matthews who brought the idea from Manchester, where she used to live.
The project has seen a number of homes across the community decorating their windows – one for each day of Advent. A new one is revealed each day and people are then encouraged to make a donation.
It’s all in support of the 1st Petersfield Scouts as their headquarters is in a state of disrepair.
Caroline said: “This is a tradition I’ve brought down from Manchester, where I’ve just moved from.
“A new festive window in a house is revealed every day in the run-up to Christmas.
“It’s great fun for the children to try and spot them all, and just a lovely non-commercial fun thing in among all the hustle and bustle of Christmas.
“We are trying to raise money for the Scout hut which is in a state of disrepair and is doing a bit of a disservice to the children who go there.”
Around £1,500 is needed to improve the hut and to buy new equipment and furniture.
Caroline said so far the Advent calendar has proven successful.
“It’s been really good. I think we are full so we have got every day covered.
“It’s just something nice to do that might raise a smile.”
