HAMPSHIRE county councillor Rupert Oppenheimer has reassured Petersfield Town Council that the Bulmer House Day Centre won’t shut until alternative day service provision had been identified for all users.

The Hampshire County Council (HCC) owned and run centre off Ramshill provides activities and help for elderly people suffering from dementia and similar conditions.

Last month, HCC councillor Liz Fairhurst, who is in charge of adult social care, said the centre at the councils’ Bulmer House care home, which is awaiting demolition so a new care home can be built, was to close because not many people used it, and it was uneconomical to run.

In a report, Cllr Oppenheimer said the service at the centre would continue until alternative provision for users had been found.
