MOST of an ambitious and costly plan to revamp a street in Petersfield has been put on hold for the foreseeable future.

Early last year, Hampshire County Council unveiled a £264,000 plan to make Lavant Street more attractive and welcoming.

But now the council says the cost has risen to "over £500,000" and two thirds of the project has been put on indefinite hold.

The changes to the project in its entirety comes after reassurances last year to the Post that the work would go ahead, despite doubts being raised even then about funding....
