A motorcycle club with strong links to Horndean and its former brewery has capped another eventful year by handing £5,000 to a pair of Hampshire charities.
Their centenary maybe approaching but the Waterlooville Motorcycle Club has no desire to slow down its charity work judging by its recent donations.
Having raised in excess of £58,000 over the years they ended 2025 by donating £2,500 to both SERV Wessex Blood Bikes and the Hampshire & IoW Air Ambulance.
A good chunk of the proceeds came from The Fossils Charity Motorbike Run which sees hundreds of riders meet annually at Horndean Technology College.
This year’s event – which has origins in the Gales Run which was organised by Tony East and ran from the former George Gales Brewery in the village – was the 20th with bikes and riders of all types and ages taking part in a circular tour of the South.
Members of the club formed in 1928 as the Waterlooville & District Motor Cycle and Light Car Club nominated SERV and HIOWAA because they appreciate the service and help they provide when accidents happen.
“As we go through day-to-day life all may be going well but one day everything can change as a result of an accident,” said WMCC member, Dave Cox.
“This is where you will very often find HIOWAA has been called, a voluntary service which relies on donations like the one from ourselves, and SERV Wessex Blood Bikes.
“Their volunteer rides take blood, organs, and other products to local hospitals and air ambulance.”
The club, which has approximately 100 members, will hold its next Fossils Charity Motorbike run on July 26 while they are also running the British round of the World Sidecar Motor GP on May 30 and 31.
