TV and film actor Hugh Bonneville – star of ITV’s Downton Abbey series and its spin-off films, and Hollywood’s Paddington films – opened the Rosemary Foundation Christmas Fair that looks to have raised about £3,600 so far.

The fair, the first in two years, is the one of the biggest annual fundraising events for the foundation.

The Lavant Street charity provides end-of-life care at patients’ homes, and also supports their families.

The fair on Saturday, November 27, was held at The Petersfield School.

Foundation spokesman Wendy Smith said: “Hugh met nurses, staff and stallholders and was even happy to pose for a number of selfies!

“Christmas-themed stalls old and new did great business, and among the stalls was a ‘guess the collective age of our nurses’ competition.

“And all I can say is it’s higher than you might think – all that expert experience!

“Also a big thanks to the generosity of local businesses – their donations made the raffle was a huge success.

“The Rosemary Foundation is incredibly grateful to everyone who came along and supported us. As everyone knows, every penny counts.

“When all the money is in, we are hoping to raise nearly £6,000.”

The foundation runs solely on donations and bequests.
