FROM a childhood of hardship and loneliness, music was Jimmy Lee’s salvation and he will be sharing his experiences with a Petersfield audience.

In school and church choirs, he discovered displays of emotion were not seen as signs of weakness, so music and his abiding faith were to become, and still are, his life.

He was born in a remote farming community in Sussex. His father was drafted in 1942, leaving his mother destitute with four children.

The early 1970s saw Jimmy’s interpretation of folk and country blended into what is now known as ‘Americana’.

His ‘life stories’ are portrayed in his newly-produced and highly entertaining stage show, ‘The Runaway’, complete with narrative and projected images.

This composer, poet, singer/songwriter will be the guest at Write Angle’s monthly gathering.

Organiser Leah Cohen said: “His very own style of music, verse and lyrics reflect upon a life full of twists and turns, adventures and powerful emotions that run deep.”

The evening also includes the popular open mic session for people to perform their own poetry and music.

Doors open at 7.15pm tonight (Tuesday) for a 7.30pm start. Entry is £6.
