IT PRETTY much came and went on the same day but a sprinkling of the white stuff turned East Hampshire into a winter wonderland last Wednesday.

The first snowfall of the winter made the return to work from the Christmas break a bit tricky for some commuters.

Many roads became icy while rail services from Petersfield were cancelled for several hours after a tree fell on the line near Buriton, with buses replacing trains between Guildford and Havant.

But it also gave children the rare opportunity to build a snowman and give their sledge a run out on the slopes of Butser Hill.

The Wilson family from Liphook were among the people who enjoyed a wintry morning of fun on the district’s highest point.

On Wednesday morning Uppark in South Harting was closed to visitors due to the icy conditions on roads leading to the historic house.Rake also got more than it's fair share of snow, with the Petersfield to Liphook London Road almost obscured at times as the snow fell.
