A SILVER anniversary for the silver screen is being celebrated at this year’s Chichester International Film Festival.

And a host of exciting events have been planned to mark the 25th milestone for what is now the largest film festival on the South Coast.

There are no fewer than 150 films from all over the world being screened during the 18-day festival from August 11-28, at its arthouse home at Chichester Cinema at New Park, and six other venues, including the cathedral, St John’s Chapel and the beautiful shepherd’s hut Picture Palace.

Pre-festival pleasures include two open air screenings this weekend in Chichester’s Priory Park – Calamity Jane sing-a-long on Friday, August 5, and Finding Dory on Saturday, August 6, – as well as a drive-in movie experience on Sunday, August 7.

At this, Casablanca (pictured) will be shown on the UK’s largest outdoor screen in the Northgate car park.

Other highlights include an Alan Rickman retrospective, classic silent films with piano accompaniment, and Murder in the Cathedral in Chichester Cathedral.

Pedro Almodovar’s new film Julieta opens the festival and The Carer starring Brian Cox as an ageing acting legend is the closing gala film. There is a major focus on Iranian and Chinese films too.
