CHURCHER’S College Junior School (CCJS) pupils, from reception age to Year 6, were invited to take part in the third and final event in the series of ‘Millie’s Sportive Masterclasses’.
In association with the Liphook-based charity Dreams Come True, Year 6 CCJS pupil Millie Cooke-Priest wanted to offer her fellow students a fun introduction to a series of sports they may not have tried before – the last of which was her archery masterclass.
Under the eye of Sean Fox, the founder and director of Grey Goose Archery, Millie inspired her fellow pupils to take aim and go for ‘gold’ on the archery targets.
Following on from the successful Great Britain Hockey Day which was led by international hockey stars, and a Tri-a-Tri competition assisted by Tri-High Multi-Sports Club in Liphook, Millie’s intro to archery day offered the whole school an introduction to the world of Robin Hood.
The junior school’s parent association and Mr Forbes, the head of sport and outdoor learning, were integral to the day’s activity.
The children learnt positioning, bow technique using a recurve bow and how to aim correctly from archery Great Britain coaches.
Once mastered, they embarked on a competition of ‘nearest the gold wins’.
The young archers enjoyed the thrill of shooting an arrow and seeing it successfully pierce the target.
Millie was delighted to announce she has raised a grand total of £653 for Dreams Come True, while inspiring her fellow pupils to get involved in different sports, and she hopes she has left a lasting legacy for younger pupils to aspire to.
A cheque presentation to the charity will take place at CCJS at the end of the summer term.
